The Domus chair was designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara to be a true multifunctional chair to meet the diverse needs of the Domus Academica student housing in Helsinki, in 1946. The Finnish designer named the chair after the student’s residence for which he created it initially, as it served as a work chair in the student rooms, but also in the hallways, auditoriums and canteens of the student housing. Domus is a stackable (up to 4/5 pieces) multipurpose chair with a seat and back in form pressed birch plywood and a frame and armrest in solid birch (natural lacquered, or black, white or honey stained) and also available in a natural lacquered solid oak finish.
